The Korean version of "I Love You" was released as a digital single on July 5, 2012 as the lead single for an upcoming album release delayed to October. The song is described as electro-trot.

The song was produced by Teddy and immediately achieved perfect all-kill status after release. The song is notable for its themes about love and attachment, a contrast to previous songs by 2NE1 which focused on self-empowerment and heartbreak.

Background[]

The song was released as the first lead single to the upcoming 2NE1 album to be released in October. Teasers to the song were released a few days prior, including a music video teaser released on the same date of release. English and Japanese versions of the song are also planned for release.

Composition[]

The song was produced by frequent 2NE1 producer Teddy from 1TYM. The song is classified in the electronic genre, and contains strong elements of dance and pop, in addition to containing minor elements of hip hop. The song also contains a strong influence from trot, an older music form in Korea, and has been described by Teddy as a fusion between electronic music and trot. The lyrical content of the song has been noted for its remarkable distance from other themes the group has explored, most noticeably self-empowerment.

Promotion[]

The first live performance of the song was on Inkigayo on July 8. The song was subsequently performed for three weeks after release on Inkigayo and M! Countdown. In addition, the New Evolution tour includes performances of the song.

Music video[]

A music video teaser was released on July 5, the same date as the release of the song. On July 7 in South Korea, the music video was released worldwide on Youtube.

"I Love You" is the third physical single from Korean girl group 2NE1 for the Japanese market. It is also the group's sixth digital single for the same market. The song is a remake of the Korean version released earlier that year.

Background[]

The Japanese version of "I Love You" is a remake of the previous 2NE1 digital single in South Korea under the same title. The song was announced in July as the next single with the original release date of August 29; however, this date was delayed to September 12 along with the unveiling of the name. In August, the release was delayed again an additional two weeks to September 26. The single's release date was again changed in late August, being pushed from September 26 to a final date on September 19.

Composition[]

"I Love You" is a fusion of various musical styles, notably including trot and electronic pop. The song was produced by longtime 2NE1 producer Teddy, a former member of group 1TYM. The song's lyrical content is notably distanced from other 2NE1 songs about self-empowerment and was meant to show a different side of the group.

Promotion[]

The song was first announced on the official Japanese website in late July.

Music video[]

A short version of the music video was released on July 30 to the official 2NE1 YouTube channel.
