Development and BackgroundEdit

In July, the release was announced as the official Japanese debut for 2NE1 after the Tohoku earthquake. The album's songs are produced by Teddy. The songs on the mini album are all from previous release 2nd Mini Album, released during the summer in Korea earlier the same year.

Music and lyricsEdit

Nolza is primarily dance-pop music, with hints of rock and R&B. The songs from the album were previously released in the 2nd Mini Album, and reflect previous themes of female independence and hardships.

Three singles were released from Nolza. The first, "I am the Best", charted at number 35 on the RIAJ charts. "I am the Best" contained strong dance-pop and hip hop elements. The second single was "Hate You", which did not chart. The last single from the mini album was "Ugly", which landed at position 50, and contained strong rock and dance influences.

Chart performanceEdit

In its first week of release, Nolza managed to top the Oricon charts. It sold 25,792 copies in the first week. Over a chart run total of four weeks, it managed to sell 40,634 copies total.

2NE1's record label Avex Group (and sublabel YGEX) promoted the album on and offline. It was announced in the summer of 2011, and was the first official 2NE1 Japanese debut. To promote first single "I am the Best" and the album, the group performed on Music Station.
